Charity begins with a simple “hello”

Right now Toronto is in the midst of the PanAm Games so Toronto, an already sprawling and confusing city to navigate at the best of times, is now hosting visitors from all around the world.

The super-smart folks at the Toronto Foundation and Toronto Star decided to invite us residents to form part of an informal welcome and information squad by handing out the free nametags pictured above to wear outside.

What has been interesting to me is that I find when I am wearing my nametag, I actively looking for people to assist instead of being in my own little zoned out bubble world.

Wouldn’t it be great if one of the legacies of the PanAm Games was that we always make a point of offering a ‘hello, may I help you’ to lost strangers in our city?
